Iridium
Chemical symbol: Ir
Specific gravity: 22.56 g/cm3
Colour: anthracite grey
Melting temperature: 2466?C
Iridium belongs to the platinum metal family and is widely used in the preparation of dental alloys. In nature it is found in alloy with osmium and is also used for the creation of metal alloys intended to work at high temperature and under high wear conditions, as it is considered the most resistant to chemical corrosion.
The use of small amounts of this metal generates a large number of crystallisation nuclei during solidification of the alloy, consequently creating a small grain structure. This factor causes an increase in the mechanical strength of the alloys, better homogeneity, toughness and integrity of the thin edges.
The iridium supplied by Banco Villa is in powder form and in packs of 100 or 500 grams.
