Indium is a rare, malleable and low-melting metal with a silvery-white, shiny and brilliant colour. A characteristic property of indium is that it is radioactive, albeit weakly, so it is not considered dangerous.

This metal is soft to the point of making it possible to cut with a simple knife, even nails could affect it. Instead, trying to bend it, it will produce a sharp screech due to the breakage of the crystals that compose it.

Applications of indium

Used within LCD displays, monitors and touchscreens
Motor bearings
Solar and photoconductive technology
Medical instruments and equipment, nuclear medicine
LEDs
As a coating for other metals
For the creation of low melting point alloys
